Message from the Principal

Bob Quinones, Principal A Message from the Principal ...

Can you believe that May is already here? This is that time of year when I begin to ask myself where the year has gone. I also begin gearing up for the upcoming school year so that things can be even better than they were this year. It truly has been an exciting year at McCartney Ranch watching all the student growth, academic success, and educational fun. I can’t wait to see what is in store for the future.

As the year comes to a close, we have several events and activities that we can look forward to. Some of our upcoming field trips include The Museum of Natural History, Sea Life Aquarium, CAC Farms, Reid Park Zoo, and the Arizona Science Center. We will also host some annual events including Awards Assemblies, Volunteer Tea, Talent Show, Water Day, Middle School Visits, Kindergarten Programs, 5th Grade Social, and the Spring Band Concert.

As you may know, May 1-5 is Teacher Appreciation week. Regardless of title (teacher, assistant, custodian, etc.), every staff member at McCartney Ranch has a positive impact on kids and I am truly grateful that I have the opportunity to work with such a supportive group of individuals. Please join me in celebrating the efforts and hard work that our wonderful staff has put into each and every student this year. If you have a personal experience with a positive teacher that has influenced you or your child(ren) over the years, this is a great time to get reconnected and say Thank You!

During the week of May 15- 19, we will be very busy, as we will host many guests and presentations for our annual Exploration Week. Students will be participating in various academic extension activities thanks to the extra effort from our staff and our wonderful community partnerships. Thanks to all that have graciously volunteered to be a part of this wonderful week.

Since the Awards Assemblies and other programs are also quickly approaching, please mark your calendars so you don’t miss out on celebrating your children’s efforts! Our kindergarten programs will be held on May 22 at 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Please contact your child’s teacher for the specific program they will be performing in. On May 25, we will host our Awards Assemblies for families. Grades 1-3 will be held at 9:30, while grades 4-5 will be held at 10:30.

As the year winds down and the temperatures heat up, we ask that you keep a few things in mind: the need for hydration, proper sun protection, and appropriate student dress code. Students will be provided water breaks at school but we suggest that they also bring a sealable water bottle. Students will also be allowed to wear hats and sunglasses outside to keep themselves protected from the sun.

Lastly, students should continue wearing school appropriate clothes (providing proper coverage and meeting length requirements). In addition, safe shoes should be worn at all times. Flip-flops can be a dangerous tripping hazard. Sneakers are the preferred recommendation, especially for running and playing.

Please contact our school office for specific information about any of the exciting events. Also, don’t forget that May 26 is the last day of school. We look forward to seeing you next year!
