Water Quality Advisory:

We are pleased to report that the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) has shared that the lead screening results for drinking water samples collected at McCartney Ranch were less than the screening level. All ADEQ sample collection and screening protocols were followed.

Several people have asked about the water quality due to things they are hearing from community members and individuals across the District. As an effort to provide clarification, some additional facts about water quality samples across the District are provided below:

  1. As a District, we have been informed by the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality that the water tested in 9 of our 12 schools was less than the federal level of 15 parts per billion.
  2. Several samples were tested at each school.
  3. Out of all of the samples tested throughout the District, 3 samples exceeded the federal standard for lead.
  4. As soon as we have received any information about elevated levels of lead, we have shared the information with the Dispatch.
  5. The only school where access to drinking water had to be restricted throughout the campus was at Palo Verde.
  6. The water from a drinking fountain in the CGMS auditorium lobby exceeded the federal standard, and this water supply has been turned off.
  7. The water from a hose bib in a mechanical room on Saguaro’s property, but unattached to Saguaro, exceeded the federal standard.  This area is not accessible to students or staff, and notice has been posted to inform our facilities staff (the only individuals who would be in the mechanical area) not to drink from the hose bib.
  8. As a District, we will identify and correct any specific source of the elevated lead as soon as possible.
